RAK ON: How Marsha Sims Uncluttered Her Life and Discovered Her Purpose
Hey everyone, Dr. Rak here. Do you ever feel overwhelmed by clutter, either in your house or perhaps in your head? If so, you're definitely not alone! Clutter is something many of us struggle with, myself included. Recently, I started working on becoming more organized with one of my patients, professional organizer and author Marsha Sims. This week, I’m reflecting on Marsha’s enlightening journey and how the clutter we accumulate around us can often mirror our clutter within.
Marsha found her true calling in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, a disaster that ravaged the housing market in Miami. As a realtor and single mother of three, she was forced to reconsider her career path. Initially, she obtained certification in professional organization to manage her own challenges with disorganization. Marsha soon realized her skills could benefit others, and this unexpected turn in her career led her to a passion for helping people organize their lives. Her story is a powerful reminder that every challenge presents an opportunity to grow and serve.
For the full story of Marsha's inspiring journey and tips on how to declutter your life in 2024, check out the incredible conversation on the season 2 premiere of The Health Feast.

Marsha's empathetic approach extends beyond mere physical organizing. She helps her clients confront the emotional challenges that the clutter often represents. In doing so, she uncovers the stories, the anxieties, and the dreams that have been buried under the mess. Having navigated her own cluttered path, Marsha brings a unique understanding and compassion to her work, guiding her clients toward finding peace and clarity amidst disorder.
So, let's draw inspiration from Marsha and RAK our Week by viewing the clutter around and within us as opportunities for growth and change. Remember, organizing our environment is a step toward aligning our inner world, fostering a sense of balance and joy in our lives.
Roots Reflection 🌳:
Consider the spaces in your life that feel the most cluttered, whether they're physical locations like a room in your home or aspects of your inner world like your thoughts or emotions. What might this clutter be reflecting about your current state of mind or life circumstances? Use this reflection to uncover deeper insights about your journey of growth and transformation.
Awareness Action 🧘🏾:
This week, choose one specific area in your life that feels cluttered or overwhelming. It could be a physical space, such as a closet or desk, or a non-physical aspect, like your daily schedule or to-do list. Dedicate some time to organizing or decluttering this space. As you do, pay close attention to the emotions and thoughts that surface as you declutter.
Kindness Opportunity 💖:
This week, reach out to someone who might be overwhelmed — whether by life's responsibilities or their physical surroundings. Offer a listening ear, some words of encouragement, and even a helping hand if possible. Sometimes, showing up for someone can help lighten their load and clear a path forward, both literally and figuratively.
